McKay's Textiles

McKay's Textiles is an institution. It is a shed/barn in the middle of nowhere FULL of fabric from as far back as the 50's. It's about 15 minutes outside of Chatham, Ontario at an intersection called McKay's Corners - fancy that! Unfortunately, the current owner is getting older and needs to sell the business or the contents. So on Monday, my mom and I decided to head down there before the doors closed for good (which is currently undecided) and take advantage of the 50% sales.

It's one of those places that you shudder at the thought of what crawls through the fabric when the lights are out at night. You can hear the squirrels and possibly raccoons above you in the ceiling....insert creepy crawly dance here. But the thrill of finding some awesome vintage/retro fabric keeps us coming back for more.

To visit this place, you must be willing to DIG through piles and piles of fabric.  There are definitely some diamonds to be found. Wear comfy shoes and bring snacks!

I came home with about $40 of fabric for miscellaneous projects such as some quilting cotton, light weight summer dress fabric and pillow material. Almost everything I got was between $1-5 per metre!

If you are looking to buy some bolts of material or a whole barn of vintage fabric, let me know and I'll give you the phone number!

  2. They are letting bolts go for $10 a piece now. And you still can't see the back of the shelves yet.
