One of the first things I do when I move into a new place is get the window coverings up. As much as I love giving the neighbours a free show, I think they appreciate the privacy as much as I do. My temporary solution for our bedroom (Bedroom #1 on the floor plan here) was a blanket pinned to the window. But after a month of fiddling with thumbtacks every time I wanted to let in the light, this just wasn't working for me anymore!
I have been browsing the gorgeous fabric at Tonic Living for a while now and finally just decided to buy some. I ordered enough fabric to create a custom Roman Blind for our bedroom and a bench seat for the front closet (I'll talk about that in a later post).
I always second guess my fabric choices, but when I saw this Ogee, Brindle fabric by Dwell Studio I knew it would be perfect. I really like the bedroom to be as DARK as possible, so I also picked up some Black Out Lining for the inside of the blind. Let me tell you - that black out lining is awesome!
To make the blind, I followed this "How-to Sew a Roman Blind" tutorial by Markova Design. All of the other supplies (dowels, twill tape, cord, plastic rings, etc.) I picked up at my local Len's Mill Store. I opted for the cleat closure instead of a built-in cord lock.
